6 Questions To Ask Before Getting Dental Implants

12 Sep 2020

Are you considering dental implants? Here's 6 questions you should ask before getting them.

Are you looking into or considering getting dental implants? If so, there may be many questions running through your head such as how much will it cost, is it the best option for you and many more. To help put your mind at ease, here are the top questions to ask before getting dental implants.

How long will my implants last for?

On average, dental implants can last for around 15 years or more, depending on how they are looked after. At Suburban Smiles, our dental implants are constructed using medical-grade titanium for a very long lifespan and incredible durability.

How is the procedure conducted?

The way we create your new smile is by placing a titanium fixture into the bone of where the root of the tooth used to be. Then, we use a tiny screw to attach the fixture to a porcelain crown. The end result is the feel and appearance of natural and healthy looking teeth.

How do I take care of my dental implants?

Taking care of your dental implants is just like taking care of your real teeth. Even though dental implants are stronger and can withstand more pressure than real teeth, continual dental hygiene is still just as important for ensuring your dental implants are disease-free.

Here are some quick tips for taking care of your dental implants:

  • Clean the implants twice a day using a toothbrush with soft-bristles.
  • Be sure to select a toothpaste that is low-abrasive.
  • When brushing, reach around and under the crown of the dental implant.
  • Make sure you are using a toothbrush that allows you to get into hard to reach places.
  • Remember to floss at least once daily. You can use implant-specific or unwaxed dental floss.

Are there any prerequisites?

Most patients can get dental implants as long as they have enough bone for the implant to hold and have healthy gums. People that suffer from issues such as heart disease, diabetes, are heavy smokers or have gone through radiation treatment will need to have a consultation with the dentist to ensure they are eligible.

Will my dental implant be noticeable?

Absolutely not. When replacing a tooth, we take an impression of the implant fixture which we then send over to our dental laboratory to be constructed. This means that your dental implant will be a replicate of the tooth being replaced, allowing you to smile with confidence and continue to eat the foods you love.

Are dental implants very expensive?

At Suburban Smiles, we pride ourselves on providing . Going to a ‘cheap’ dentist puts you at risk of having inferior dental implants due to them using cheap dental implant components. We only use high-quality components that are from some of the leading brands, all with an affordable price.
